
Istanbul, October 2, 2024 – The Central Depository/Settlement Bank (DC/BR) of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) showcases its key best practices for integrated capital markets at the Summit of the Association of Eurasian Central Securities Depositories (AECSD) and the Africa & Middle East Depositories Association (AMEDA), scheduled from October 2 to 4, 2024, in Istanbul.
This Summit, designed to explore emerging technologies and future opportunities in financial markets, addresses industry best practices as well as critical areas such as financial market operations, fintech and business development, information security, and risk management.
Several key figures from major financial markets, financial institutions, and fintech organizations across Eurasia, Africa, and the Middle East are participating in the event, which officially opened on Thursday, October 3, 2024. The summit features multiple keynote addresses, including a speech by Mr. Birahim Diouf, Director General of the Central Depository/Settlement Bank (DC/BR) of WAEMU.
Mr. Diouf is taking part in a high-level panel discussion on best practices among central securities depositories in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. He is joined by prominent speakers such as Yasser Zaazaa, Chairman & CEO of the Central Securities Depository (Egypt); Ali Kirali, CEO of the Commodity Exchange (Turkey); Zafer Mustafaoğlu, Deputy General Manager of Halk Yatırım Menkul Değerler A.Ş. (Turkey); and Osman Günsel Topbaş, PhD, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Manifest Executive Consultancy (United Arab Emirates).
A meeting of the Board of Directors of the World Forum of Central Securities Depositories (WFC) is also scheduled alongside this Summit. Additionally, the Annual General Assemblies of AECSD and AMEDA are on the agenda.
ABOUT DC/BR
The DC/BR is a specialized financial institution of WAEMU, headquartered in Abidjan, Republic of Côte d’Ivoire.
It is responsible for centralizing the custody of securities for its members, ensuring the successful settlement and delivery of transactions following stock market trades, and processing corporate actions.
As a full member of the Association of National Numbering Agencies (ANNA), it assigns securities identification codes in WAEMU. The DC/BR was established in 1996 and officially began operations on September 16, 1998.
